Chapter III

The National Wartime of Liberation

全國解放戰爭時期

The period from Japan's surrender in August 1945 to the founding of the People's Republic in October 1949 constitutes the National Wartime of Liberation. During these four years, Communist forces expanded from established base areas in the north and northeast to achieve decisive military control across the Chinese mainland, and postal administration in the Liberated Areas grew from isolated regional operations into an integrated national system.

Chapter III covers the stamp issues produced across the major regions of China during this period. Each region followed its own administrative trajectory, and the pace of postal consolidation, the printing capacity available, and the authorities responsible varied considerably between them. The result is a body of material that is historically cohesive but technically diverse, shaped by local conditions in each area and by the changing military situation as the civil war progressed.
