The Author

Roman Scheibert

Roman Scheibert is a specialist in Chinese communist-issued philately of the period 1930 to 1949. He is an active member of the Bund Philatelistischer Prüfer e. V. (BPP), Germany's association of philatelic examiners, with a registered scope covering all Chinese Liberated Area regions and Manchukuo Local Overprints by Communists.

He is the author of Northeast China Local Overprints by Communists 1945–1949 (ISBN 978-3-00-080472-4), a gold-medal reference work documenting the MLO issues of the Northeast China Liberated Area. The catalogue on this website draws on that research and extends it to the broader field of Liberated Area philately.

The Catalogue

Scope and methodology.

The catalogue is organised by historical period, major region, and issuing authority. Each issue entry documents the printing method, known paper types, perforation, surcharge or overprint characteristics, varieties, and valuations. Where stamps were issued by more than one authority, administrative context is provided at the region and sub-region level.

Valuations represent current market estimates. Image data is sourced from original archival material and authenticated copies. Reconstructed or reference photographs are marked accordingly.
